Lights In Cages

Saturday nights are usually spent at home, playing with Hugh. But ah, this past Saturday wasn't so loser-ish! Derrick hosted a lantern festival party at his place, mainly organized by Donovan. Typical of last minute plannings, when Donovan and Beh came to pick me and Chand up at Taman Connaught's McDonalds, we went hunting for candles and lanterns. Because nobody had any.

We went driving around in Giant, but after getting laughed at by some Chinese sales aunties for celebrating one day late, we had to go to the tiny Chinese sundry shops instead because Giant is a giant loser that doesn't stock extras. Beh and I found some vintage lanterns at one shop, in the form of Pikachu (for Jay), a fish (my favourite), and.. um..one more animal. A rabbit?? We stocked up on 10 boxes of candles, and went hunting for the pull type paper lanterns. After what must have been the third shop, we find treasure. Donovan bought up the whole lot, all 60 of them, and off we went trundling back to Derrick's mysterious house.

As we're on the road heading towards Derrick's house, it becomes clear why Donovan or anybody didn't bother telling us the address. According to Beh, even the Tuan Rumah didn't know. -_-' I immediately recognized the roads because it was the same place where I took my driving lessons and practices; all the way in the Hulu Langat/Cheras area. The best thing about Derrick's housing area was that there was a football field surrounded by hills right in front of his house; the Perfect place to play tanglungs.

And as usual, party+Yuen+Suxi=photo deluge

The sound system was blasting hits, the occasional Era.fm, and really really really old school music when Thomas had the control. There were moments when Beh used my belt to 'whip' Chandni, and the belt was reused for an impromtu limbo session when the song came up on the radio. Ah.. the spontaniety of youth!

It was a barbeque; sausages, crabsticks, fishballs, and the mandatory chicken wings. I gave up trying to barbeque after my first chicken wing didnt stretch properly, so it burned. Chandni and I kept making faces when we handled the slimy fleshy chicken, so we essentially left most of the actual cooking to the men, who did a pretty good job. I just had fun playing with the honey. They also tried experimenting with Pepsi and cheese, but God knows how that turned out; the pepsi made the sausages stick to the bbq pan.

I am never more proud of Suxi than when she manages to capture the best moments, whether intentional or not. There were Brokeback Moments, Best Incriminating Angle Shots, DonoLyn Shots, and Jeffrey Trying To Feed People Shots.

It's been AGES since I've set foot on a playground/field, so when we went to play with the lanterns and candles in the field, I was the first one rushing out clutching a bag of candles.

RAWR!

My inner child went ballistic! Nyaaahahaah! Unfortunately, there were some pretty breezy winds going around, so there were only a few lanterns and candles lit up before people started playing football.

John, me and Chand doing the ghetto thang.

Group shot!

It was just sparkling juice okay..

Some of my favourite moments of the night were

  • When I taught Chand how to play 'Mary had a little lamb' on the piano. I have it on recording :D
  • When we played Mafia. I finally GOT the game when I was lying in bed drifting off to sleep.
  • When they suddenly popped open marshmallows and a pan of chocolate. This was the first time ever I've had roasted marshmallows. Plus I have cute photos of John, Chand and Jesslyn eating chocolate.
  • The radio started playing 'Abimawe, abimawe, in the jungle, the mighty jungle' and everybody went into karaoke mode. Again! On record.
  • Chand, Beh and Jay wiggled to an Indian song. Yes, it's on record.
  • Beh did a lapdance for the Birthday boys: John and Derrick :DDD
  • When Charles played the ukelele. ur. The tiny guitar.
  • When we played tanglungs, and one of them caught on fire (purposely or not purposely, I don't know), and they started playing flamethrower with a mosquite repellent spray.
  • When me and Chand were sitting on the bar at the goalpost, and it suddenly gave way, making this horrible grating moaning sound, and I ran away screaming because I was suddenly falling and I thought there was a monster behind me making the horrible noises. Scare of the Night award winner, this one.
  • When everybody discovers how loud EeLing can be.. She was laughing her head off at my 'monster'
  • EeLing and I gave Jesslyn a boost so she could hang on the Goalpost
  • The Goalpost group shot.

I have rediscovered simple kampung fun. Back to the basics. Fire, food, and people. AHH! primitive fun! woooooot

By the way, I have noticed that a lot of people have no idea why we celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival. I must have babbled a lot of crap to Chand when I was trying to explain why we..er. play with fire.

The Mid Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th Lunar month. (bat yuet, chor sap mm) The folklore goes something like this:

In super super old times, (way before sliced bread, Columbus, and dodo birds were extinct) there were 10 suns. Now, even in today's zaman modern, one sun already causes enough havoc at the equator, so you can imagine the torture olden-times-people had to endure with 10 suns. The heat killed crops, and so people had no corn to sell and stuff, so they were living in dire dire dire poverty.

Then came along this hero, Hou Yi, and he went all the way up to one of the mountains, Kunlun mountain. Being the Larry Sue of folklore that he is, he directed his SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH to maximum power (think of it as nitro to the max in car racing games) and using his super chunted legolas like bow, he shot down 9 suns. He left one for us la, of course. Even that one didn't properly escape. He bullied it into rising and setting on time. And so, now everybody had to suck up to him, because nobody else bothered to climb a mountain and shoot down suns. Larry Sue, I mean, Hou Yi now was a martyr to everyone, and was respected by everybody. (or so he'd like to think)

One of his pupils riding on his coattails of fame was this dude called Peng Meng. Now you can already tell this fella is evil. Even his name is so loser-ish.

Now, Larry Sue has this Mary Sue wife, of course. Her Chinese name was Chang Ee. She was beautiful, and kind hearted, and the usual la.. One day as her hero of her husband was climbing KunLun mountain to visit his drinking kakis, he bumped into the Empress of Heaven, Wangmu. (I suspect they were having an affair) Empress Wangmu gave him an elixir of Heaven, which upon drinking it, the drinker would ascend to heaven and become a celestial being. (That's better than being a fairy okay) But because this Hou Yi couldn't bear to leave his beloved wife behind on earth, he gave it to her and asked her to hide it.

As she was hiding the elixir away in her makeup drawer (stupid stupid place to hide it, idiot woman), LoserPengMeng saw it and tried to rob her. Knowing that LoserPengMeng, loser he may be, knew martial arts, and her own husband had never bothered teaching her any self defense or given her any pepper spray, she made a critical decision!

She swallowed the elixir. (Hey, I said she was kind and beautiful, not smart)

And so she floated up towards Heaven like a mini hot balloon! When Hou Yi returned, and found out what happened from the chambermaids, he was understandbly quite sad. He looked up to the moon and found that the moon was super bright and there was a shadow on the moon that looked like his wife. In a moment of insanity, he tried to chase after the moon (Another idiot, go hentam that PengMeng la!) Thinking of his wife day and night, he had an incense table set up as a memorial to his Chang Ee. And so from that day on, people would arrange the incense table in the moonlight and pray to Chang Ee for good fortune ($o typical of the Chine$e) and peace. And that's where the custom of worshipping the moon started.

But as always with folklores, there are many different versions.

In another version I've read, Hou Yi was a tyrannical ruler who shot down 9 suns, and won the elixir of immortality. His wife knew that people would suffer if he lived forever, like Darth Vader, MoJoJoJo, and other cartoony villians. So she drank the potion instead, which made her lighter and she floated to the moon.

She should just have let him drink the potion and let HIM float to the moon and live with martians forever.

There are possibly a million and one versions of Chinese folklore on this festival alone. I still have no idea where I read that mooncakes were a vessel to pass secret messages during olden times, or that people lit lanterns to fool the Gods who were furious at the whole let's-shoot-down-suns incident, and wanted to set Earth on fire. So the lanterns that were lit made it look like we were all burning in our own living hell.

NEXT! Deeparaya is a few weeks away. Then my favourite festival of the year : CHRISTMAS!

Batface and Birdbrain

OHMIGOD

'Batman and Robin' is so bad it's not funny.

Okay, it's actually funny in a really really bad way. The horribly cheesy dialogue, the horrid soundtrack, the comic-ky sound effects, and the casting, oh the casting...

Uma Thurman is hot as Poison Ivy, I'll give her that. But she can't do comic characters. Not Ivy anyway. The tone, the script, oh my God, why, Uma, why.. Gattaca made me a fan of your elegance and poise. Poison Ivy is your skeleton in the closet shame.

Arnold Shwarz-dude. What. The. HeckyDoo. The face paint, the accent, the costume. It's almost too painful to watch. He's there for comic relief more than anything. He doesn't even have proper powers. Just some big ass gun that shoots ice. Loser.

George Clooney?? You have GOT to be kidding me. KNN. He can't do action for shizz la! Comedy, okay; Drama, sure; Why do I find him projecting the lawyer character in the movie with Catherine Zeta Jones in an action movie adapted from the comic? Micheal Keaton was the better Batman, for sure.

Why does Alfred have some crazy terminal disease?? *wail*

Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Honestly, I'm not a fan of Batgirl at all. One main character in the comics plus one sidekick is enough. Plus, it just sounds so gay. Who in their right mind would fight evil guys and save the day in three inch leather boots? Heeeehehehe. Uncle Alfred was being pretty pervy when he designed her suit. Skin tight rubber/leather plus really ugly boots? Rather S&M wei...

But the horrible scriptwriting takes the cake. The whole movie gives Ivy sexual innuendos that are really just ridiculous pick up lines. Worse than 'Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?'. It's two hours of cliche lines and bad bad cheesy jokes.

Batman : *looks at Ivy's henchman* No beauty.
Robin : More like a beast.

Batman : Who are you?
Batgirl : I'm Batgirl!
Batman : That's not awfully PC.. How about Batperson, or Batwoman?

Batman : Hey Freeze (Arnold's character), the heat is on. *punch punch*

Freeze : Freeze in hell, Batman!!

Robin : You're pretty good at this, little girl!
Batgirl : *smirks* Well, watch and learn, little boy.

I can't bring myself to type anymore of the horridness. They're going on about power and vengence now. Typical save the day, restore justice, lets all hold hands and paint rainbows speech.

Freeze : Take two of these *referring to antidote to Alfred's disease*.. and call me in the morning..

I couldn't resist. :D

5 glasses

'Twas a cold dark Sunday night, and all noise was blaring from the restaurant speakers. She was surrounded by hundreds of talking, eating, sulking specimens; related by blood and marriage, but separated by a sea of utter boredom and disdain for the mediocre-at-best food and inability to be truly at ease with people she's hardly ever had a decent conversation with before.

And so she drowned her sorrows in alcohol.

Five glasses to be exact. Half filled glasses, wine, NOT sparkling juice. Five glasses may not be much to most, but different people have different alcohol tolerance yes.. coughcough. But I swear I didn't get drunk. Much. Got into a happy mood, so all was well.

This wedding was a waste of my weekend. The tea ceremony started late because the bride's younger sister went really long on the whole 'chut moon' tradition. Haggle for money from the groom's side enough la; make them drink soy sauce mixture with god knows what enough la, but when your relatives are sitting there for two hours, and the huge candle is burning half way already and you know you have to get the tea ceremony done before it's finished burning, you don't have to really bother hiding the bride's shoes just so you can ask for money.

From the start, it was clear that everything was horribly planned. From the late sending off of the bride to the bride's sisters having arguments regarding the seating arrangements at the dinner, it only drew looks from my mom and the aunts. I can only yawn, and wish that someone would SMS me so I'd have something to do, and take a gulp from the wine glass. Ahh.. the warming up of the wine as it slides down the throat.

Abang Syah

Honestly, it's a sad sad truth that we live in an urban city that's cynical and sceptical as hell. Even in quiet well to do neighbourhoods, there's hardly any trust among neighbours, let alone strangers. Strangers are understandably suspicion arousing, like when little kids come to your gate and ring the doorbell and ask for donations because they're from an orphanage. For crying out loud, what kind of a retard do you think I am that I would donate money to an 'orphanage' that sends its kids out begging for money door to door in the hot sun. But there's the occasional exception when you do let in people you don't know through the door. Like service people. Yes yes I know, there are imposters that pass off as service people also, but when they can produce identification of company, my house number, my dad's name on a receipt, plus the maid remembers that my dad got someone to change the gas hose a few years ago, I pretty much take the chance and let him in.

Okay la, it wasn't me who let him in, when I got home his shoes were already outside the door, and he had just started inspecting the gas hose. He told me and Ros (my domestic help) that the hose that we were currently using had no automatic valve function and the hole at the end of the hose was lose. Essentially, that meant gas could leak out and KABOOM, fire terjadi lar. He demostrated the new and improved hose that had the automatic valve function. What he did was this:

He disconnected the hose from the stove, and plugged his thumb over it. He took out his lighter (aiyer, smoker! Puasa la, 'bang!) and held it about an inch away from the hose. vooooooooshhhhh! you could see a big flame at the end of the hose now. Like some big ass lighter! Okay, so from the observation of the mini science experiment, we can conclude that there is gas coming out from the end of the hose.

Next experiment, he replaced the old hose with the new one, the one with the automatic valve function. Repeat steps. This time observation says there is no more flame at the hose. Therefore can conclude that this hose does not allow gas to come out from the hose when it is not attached to the stove. So safer la hor!

So now it's pretty obvious that as a safety precaution, the hose should be changed, because not only is it loose, if it does come off when the maid happens to be cooking, mati la semua. If we get the new hose, it's tight, and if it does happen to come off next time when it's gotten loose, the valve function prevents the gas from escaping from the gas cylinder.

He also showed the new gas meter. You know the big bulky thing that connects the hose to the gas cylinder? My kitchen uses the old type; there's a new type that again, has some automatic function, plus a meter the level of gas left in the cylinder. He demonstrated the function on the bulky connecter using the same lighter method, but unfortunately when he was demonstrating on the old plug thing, he must have not controlled the gas properly with his thumb because it resulted in a SUPER HUGE FLAMING GUN LIKE VOOOSSHHH that surprisingly didn't flame the counter. That got me and the maid shrieking and scuttling away, Nyahahah. he quickly turned it off and apologized hurriedly, but when he asked me if to wave my hand on the end of the new plug thing to feel if there was any gas coming out of it, I immediately declined. Er er, I take your word for it la....

Anyway, now was the question of permission. Letting you into the house is one thing, buying a 59 dollar hose is another. I was more than ready to pay for the hose, because it concerns safety and whatnot, but my mom had different ideas. Or perhaps a completly different brain. As soon as the words ' service fella', 'hose', 'change' came out of my mouth she started flaming ME. "No! I didn't call any service people, why let him into the house, what this change hose, no need, just tell them no need, I don't want anything, get them out of the house" I couldn't get a word in otherwise. So fine, I had to (embarassingly) explain to Syah (that's his name, by the way) that my mother was paranoid about strangers. He understood, probably something you pick up in this line of work. But now the maid was paranoid, because she's the one that does the cooking. If any flame accident happens...well, I'm not the one getting injured... So she asked me to call 'Sir' (my dad la) because even she knows my dad is more logical and will listen more patiently to reason.

So when I call my dad I have to explain properly this time, with extra nitty gritty explanations. If you've heard me and the way I come up with metaphors and methods to memorise facts, you will have guessed that I usually have rather exasperating conversations to get my point across to my blur dad.

"Okay okay so you see right, you have the stove on your left! Then right, your gas tong, you know the... blue colour container? Ah, that one is on your right, yes? Then in between, there is the hose, connecting the stove and the blue color thing. Gettit?"

"...Huh. Okay okay, start again, explain slowly.."

*sigh* "Okay... you got the stove! and you have that... that...blue.. gassy thing.."

"Cylinder ah?"

"AHHHH YES YES cylinder!! Okay, so you have a stove and you have a gas cylinder right! Then connecting the two got that hose hose thing right! Remember or not, last time, a few years ago, you had the hose changed?"

"Change the hose? No, I didn't change the hose.."

"Noooo, not you, you called someone to change the hose remember? Ros said you called the company and someone came to change???"

"Ohh yes yes okay, so?"

"Ah, so the fella say your hose got problem, leaking and got no valve thing wor..You see right, he said the hose should change every three or so yea-"

"Okay so charge how much for the new hose? "(finally caught on and fast forward pulak)

*ask Abang Syah*

"He said 59 dollars for the short one, 79 for the long one "

talktalktalktalktalk, I told Daddy how he demonstrated. Thank God he knows his daughter is not a retard; I mean come on, give me some credit, it's not like I fell for a magic card trick. You have one hose and resulting fire. You have another hose which doesnt allow fire. CHOOSE LA!

Then my dad said okay la, since it's some safety thing , and I had money, and the fella was there to install it, might as well change it. I made sure to ask repeatedly that I had HIS permission to let the guy change the hose, making sure to whine that Mom had scolded me when I had called her.

"I got YOUR permission ah! Because Mommy said no no, just tell him to go away all.. *whine* Got YOUR permission okay!?"

"Yeah la yeah la, YOU don't worry, I will handle it (snort, even he knows what's coming). You just do it la"

So while Syah went off to ask his colleague who was changing the hose at another house further up the street for a short $59 hose, I went off to hunt in my money stash. Then as soon as I come downstairs with the cash, Dad calls again.

"Tell the fella no need"

"Hah?? What, Why?"

"Just tell him no need, I call another fella to come inspect and make sure first."

"Oh, okay la then. But he demonstrated you know! Tell you what, I tell him to come back tonight to show you and Mommy lar haijo"

more talktalktalktalktalktalk

I end up sheepishly telling Syah that I don't need the hose anymore. PAISEH. I explain the situation to him, and he's pretty understanding. As he's reinstalling the old hose, he makes small talk. It was an enjoyable chat, he wasn't perverted at all, polite and funny. He kept reassuring Ros because she was quite freaked out by his 'demos' saying, "Releks la, cik, saya pun belum kahwin, kalau mati pun, mati sama-sama" :D

"Apa nama dik ah?"

"Yuen Yee"

"Oh, wendy.." *-_-' But I'm used to it, so let it slide*

"Berapa umur Wendy?"

"18"

"Ohh, Wendy ada adik beradik ke?"

"Ada, kakak. Overseas, kat Singapore."

"Oh, jadi dua anak je la?"

*nods*

*grins* "Patutla manja ngat.."

He also inquired on my 'asal usul', meaning where I was from.

"Keluarga you dari mana ah?"

"Dari? oh, KL la"

"Ohh.. ingat dari Perak.. Pernah pergi Perak? Saya dari Ipoh! "

"Oh ye ke? Tak la, tak pernah pegi kat Perak.."

" Nak pegi tak? HAHAHA"

talktalktalk

"Oh, bahasa kamu pun agak bagus ye!"

"hooo hooo hoo! tak laaa.. sebab...s'kola national.. " *grin*

Pn. Martita would be proud of my accent when I speak casual Malay. PETAH TAU!

It was quite exasperating to think that everything could have been settled easily in like 5 minutes if it wasn't for the rampant cons and scams going around everywhere everyday that made my parents have to be super suspicious and cynical. Syah mentioned how usually the more educated families were more reasonable about the changing of equipment, whereas 'orang kampung kampung tu la, yang kena explain detail lebih, sebab tak faham'. All I could do was shrug, what was I to do but follow instructions. I did ask him to change the metal grip on the old hose because the old one didn't work very well. $2.50. But if the parents ask, it was free... nanti I yang kena lecture la...

When he was finally done, he asked Ros if she was puasa-ing. When she asked why, he said "I sudah mandi peluh la, dahaga! Kena la buka puasa, tapi kalau orang tanya.. shhh" :D So I served him ice water filled to the brim of the mug, wala, finish the whole cup. As he left, he left his handphone number, saying if I wanted him to come around to give the demo to my parents or explain to them, I could just call him. True also, if I'm employing Ros, obviously I'm responsible for her safety at her workplace. $59 ringgit is nothing compared to the damage and cost a full out fire would cause.

So when the parentals come home tonight, I'm going to go full out force with my persuasion skills, if that fails, then logic skills, if THAT fails, then I'll just whine... "I'm not the one cooking, I'm not the one dying.."

Abang Syah is probably the best service follow up dude who has ever done business with my family. He explains properly, and you are assured that he doesn't get any profit whether or not you buy the stupid hose. So it personally doesn't matter to him if you buy it or not. "Hak kamu la, nak beli ke tak nak.. I'm here to make sure sudah explain, you all faham bleh la.." Plus he's pretty trustworthy, and friendly, and best of all, not perverted. So yes, next time your kitchen or gas needs checking, call la Syah yeah!

If I were a product

... the marketing department would have a hard time promoting and selling me.

I mean, honestly, what am I good for?

I can help you with studying before exams :D Just ask Linda, Chand, and Reagan. We studied together, and while they were quietly reading notes, I was babbling away my highlighted notes over and over again like a spoilt radio on loop. Reagan got excellent marks with my help because I drilled facts over and over again into their heads at the mamak stall.*puffs* Um, not that I did it intentionally, it just happens to be my last-minute-group-study method. I think it proves to be an effective technique for me because I release tension by babbling, and by babbling, I come up with utter ridiculous nonsensical ways to remember facts. AND TADAAA a near perfect score for ICC. Granted, she was very lenient, but still.

My shoulder is apparently very nice to lean on for sleeping. Chand likes it especially when I'm wearing the Giordano jacket. I'm not too sure of that fact since if I tried leaning on my own shoulder I'd look freaky. I'm..soft.. I'm not bony anywhere anymore. In fact I think I'm very huggable in general. I dunno. KAF, am I huggable???

I think I would make an excellent bodyguard :D Yes yes yes?? If I can find teman, I'd like to take Muay Thai classes during the holidays. I'd be absolutely bloody lethal. I'm already rather confrontational and in-your-face, and I practice my death look on Linda and Kitty everyday if I get the chance. I think most people who know me might agree that I have somewhat mild-violent tendencies *scratch head*, but, aiya, still sayang , yes no yes no yes no? Imagine if there was a little button or dial that controlled the power; from poking people to elbowing them in the stomach to full out kick ass. HEE!

I could drive - no wait. scratch that.

...

EEEE! is that all? Daymn. I'm an almost-good-for-nothing monkey/pig/egg loving product.

Saham jatuh.

Killing Time

.. should be outlawed. It's just wrong. You should be enjoying every second of every day, but then when you're stuck in college for 4 and a half hours, you just want to turn violent.

Thank God Anaz is online for a while to help ease the torture. The library is extra cold at this hour, since H&T is on holiday this week, there's less people crowding the computers and hence, less body warmth.

At this time when there's not much to occupy my mind, it keeps wandering to Mid term results.

ICC - nyaaaahahahha. 19 out of 20. She scratched out the half mark, otherwise it would be 19 and a 1/2 - bengang.. I must I must score at least an A- for this subject. I can do well!

ICG - Slightly better than i expected, since I missed the part of the question that stated I had to draw 3 bottles. I only did one, and slaved over that one ugly warped bottle. I'm rather insulted my BigBird assignment didn't score higher though. Maybe she found out the part where I cheated on BigBird's tail and used the pencil tool to color it in. Hovering around a B/B-. Time enough to pull up my grade to an A- hopefully.

CTR - ugh. I can't accept that he failed my assignment just because the level of english was too high. Obviously I'm not going to insert slang and improper words like 'hor, la, liao' in an academic piece! Sorry to burst your bubble Shahid, but we had one whole semester of CSS torture. I know when to write seriously and properly. BUT NOOOO it's sooooo impossible that we Malaysian students that dont speak English as our native language can produce worthy pieces. Lesson learnt. If you want a good grade from Shahid, you have to downgrade your mental capacity to that of a cina beng from a remove class. Thank goodness I managed to score a better grade for midterm. That B evens out that horrible C-. I just need to pass.. oh please let Linda and me pass.. We absolutely cannot fail.

IMMW - B/B-. Why can't I remember these things. Assignments have been absolute crap, writing is such a subjective subject. I'll be truthful, I'm struggling with writing; media writing is a whole new game to me. It's no longer about just grammar and spelling, content is thrown in, and that's unfortunately where I lose out. Plus, wrecked and messed up presentations are not helping. IMMW is turning into a nightmare. I'm just keeping my finger crossed I am lucky enough to do well in finals and scrap through with at least a B.

MKT - Mozly isn't done with the papers yet. How bad could it be though. I tembak-ed all but one of the essay questions, and like half of the MCQs, so I guess quite bad. I'm rooting for a C on this exam. It was just too bad.

aghh an hour more to kill. No matter, I suspect there's nasi briyani to look forward to tonight, as Mom's friend from the US/Thailand is coming back here from his holiday in Singapore. Mom has been planning a whole Malaysian feast for Uncle Jim during his stay here. She's taken him to KLCC so far, and it's a nice to see a different perspective on the KL city. Uncle Jim continually marvels at all the different changes the city has taken since his family was last here about 15 years ago. He's absolutely fascinated with tall buildings and very gamely tries all the food. He's taken a fond liking for Indian cuisine, and was suitably impressed when we went to Royal China for dimsum last weekend before he went to SIngapore.

Okay, time to go down and munch a couple of fishballs before waiting for the bus. AGH when will Jun be driven~!!!!

Smell

I smell so nice.

No, really.

I smell so nice, I'm tempted to buy a tub of The Body Shop's papaya scrub. It's invigorating, it exfoliates, and I smell so pretty.

I smell like papaya plus the slightest hint of blueberry, and it's this subtle warm sweetness infused into my skin. I continually cup my hands to my face and I'm enveloped in this heavenly scent that makes my eyes go fluttery.

It's intense and subtle at the same time and is one of the best sensations you could give your olfactory senses.

If it was a fruit, it would be a warm red papaya-coloured peach with fuzz all over, eaten on a warm cloudy afternoon.

If it was music, it would be Corrine Bailey Rae's Put Your Record On with a slightly heavier bass beat.

If it was jewellery, it would be a chunky boho anklet.

*sniff*
I smell. :d

I pimp too!

Some time ago, Jolene Lai's blog at http://jayelleenelial.blogdrive.com showed her as a pimpstress pimping her male friends. I had such fun reading it that I have decided to pimp my friends as well. Unfortunately, all my guy friends are attached, and they're no fun la.

So I did the Girls :D Some of them pointed out that compared to my Korean drama life, theirs is pretty tame. Like.. American wanna-be horror movie drama. Maybe some pimping will get them some drama! And if it doesn't, well, it's an excuse for me to blog about my favourite people <3

That's Lim Kareen there on the left. I've been in the same class as KarBear since Form 1, but ironically didn't get very close to her till like, form 3? Then she went to Science 1, and I went to Science 3, but we shared the same moral classes, and we've been tight since! So terribly ironic that we get closer when we seperated to go to different classes.

I remember when I first wrote a Friendster testimonial for her, one thing I said was she had a tongue that could curdle milk. That was back then when I felt she had a very sharp tongue which she used very well in debates, might I add, but now, she's all sweet and there's hardly any more sarcasm there. I miss! This girl, who happens to be a year younger than my peers, is probably more mature than the whole lot put together. She's almost always online, so she's my first sounding board in the event of any daily drama, so rest assured, she's very cool headed, gives good advice, and is very rational, not psychotic and melodramatic like some people.. *coughcough*

Of course, you'd have to be a hell of a braniac to match her, because this girl has brains like no other. The infuriating thing about her is that she will never be satisfied with her marks even if she scores an 'A' because she feels that she could have done better. Okay la, can understand that feeling, but.. 'A'!!! So you know that if she expects the best from herself, she has helluva high expectations for TheGuy, whoever he is. And if she doesn't, her friends sure do. hur. ;D

KarBear is very generous as well, she bought me my pearl necklace when I wanted it but was short of dough when she could have just lent me the money. She planned the most havoc birthday I've ever had, and she's simply one of the best la! Her room is always the best for sleepovers (don't get any ideas, mind you) and she's as loyal as they come. Plus, she has good taste, she bought me my favourite bracelet for my birthday. I'm going to wear it at all birthday celebrations from now on :D

Next, Anazthasya Chin Anthony!! You see, Anya, I'm so nice, I chose the picture of you without your specs because i didn't want you to bising, but if you look properly you can see them on the table behind. Hiao much? XD

Short note, I love this photo, you remember when we took it? Judging by the tiny flower in my hair, and my sloppy uniform, I vaguely remember this as post-Interact IU themed 'Chromosome XX' (which I came up with by the way, coughcough). I was never really fond of our interact member uniform, because the shirt never fit me well, but I think it looks really good on you. *proud*

Anaz and I go waayyy back to primary school, precisely when, I can never say, I can't even remember what classes we had together back then, but suffice to say she's known me the longest out of the friends I have. We were proper friends back in primary school, and I was relieved that I had her and Cheryne to accompany me when we joined Interact. Ahh.. Interact. I abused friendship powers when I bribed Anaz with pizza to come to my house to help me paint my recruitment banner during the school holidays because my board members were being retards and didn't want to help. DID I EVER TELL YOU HOW GRATEFUL I WAS? *hugs* This is proof of how selfless Anaz is when it comes to friends in need.

She was always my backup when I needed help for Interact. Mind you, this was before the probbies came in, so there I was always begging for help, and Anaz and Cheryne would answer my call. yay! Now she still layans me when I need help, or just someone to talk to, or when Kar isn't available for ranting.

Have I mentioned Anaz is a very competent driver? She is, okay, I feel safe enough to sit in the passenger seat when she drives her trusty Proton, and she goes pon-ing other bad drivers. Besides that, Anaz has taught me many many things and words with multiple and DEEPER meanings such as Destiny, chillex, and basically Anya slang. She's a gorgeous example of Malaysia muhibbah, being chindian and all, and I'm quite proud to say that her Chinese is *almost* better than mine.

Even though we're no longer in the same class, we still see each other fairly often, thanks to the close proximity of our colleges. I miss pool-ing with her, she's a fairly competent pool player as well! ;) Frankly said, Anaz is very much a family person, the worst time to ajak her out would be when her papa comes back, because you know she'll be busy spending family time. And as you can see from above, she and her cousin, Beth, are very close. <3>Family love

Anya is currently single, but berbanyak suitors, from what I read on her blog...

the chap fan queen rules.

Francine Ong Wee Sim was in the same class as me throughout our secondary school life, but I never really hung out with her until form 4. And even then, it was purely by accident.

In form 4, they announced the streaming of the science and arts students. Somehow or rather, I erm.. wasn't paying attention, and I started freaking out when they started announcing the 4 science 5 students.

Oh gee, am I that stupid? science 5? bugger.. ah, at least got Charmaine to teman me.

*starts announcing arts students*

Ack. No science stream? Daymn, I guess I'll have to appeal

*commerce students*

OMG. I'm going to be a housewife.

So I go up to the teacher in charge, and she checks the list and sends me off to science 3. By then everybody has already settled in, and there's no place for me except right at the back next to this quiet girl who I rarely talked to, and the most notice I took of her was her retainer.

She was very quiet at first, since we both didn't know each other very well, so for the first few days, it was just polite small talk, but we soon warmed to each other thanks to Orlando Bloom, Westlife, and our excellent chemistry :D I would merajuk a lot in form 5 when she skipped school to study, because the class would be practically empty, and I'd have no one to babble to.

The best was Add Math. She would pay attention to Pn Nuraini because..well.. she's Francine, and because she'd have to teach me later, and I'd just daydream. We were a good pair.

Fran is an only child, but you wouldn't notice it because she' s not spoilt the slightest. She's pampered la, what with puppies and all, but she's sweet as anything!! At the beginning there was some confusion on my part on what exactly she is because she looks so exotic, and I wouldn't believe that she was as Chinese as I am. After some interrogation, all I have to put my mind at ease is that she is BabaNonya. God, I would die for her genes.

She is currently doing SAM in taylors, and may be a bit shy at first, but trust me, this girl is damn worth knowing. The last I heard, some dude who gave her chocolates for Valentines gave up (tsk), so yes, she's still single.

13

On a scale of one to ten, ten being the worst, it was definitely a 13. badddd 13.

My morning starts with me dropping my bag so it hits the steps on the bus and crashes on the road. Thankfully no major damage to Hugh or my Zen.. but it has just started.

Go to school early and sit there rot for an hour at the benches waiting for Linda. In the end, all the work we got done could have totally been accomplished even if I didn't come. Okay, fiiiine, go makan. We meet Jeff and John and Jeff just happens to remember some amusing news about J-Target and Donovan's well-meant but horribly misplaced intentions.

There I am flusterred because of what Jeff just told me about my Friendster profile being blurred/laughed/grossed out at, smsing Chandni to find out when she'd be back from her romantic getaway, when

*kaplunk*

i fall down.

on the stairs.

and my ankle gives way. SIDEWAYS

I just thank God I was wearing my pink comfy adis and not heels. My leg started to cramp up when we were walking through Pyramid. Then in the toilet it happened again.

I slipped on the hose and the SAME ANKLE WENT KAPLUNK-Y again.

enough!

Then in the Media Hub, Jay calls. I don't have my wallet, because it's with him. Nevermind. There's only seven dollars in there because i'm FLAT OUT BROKE anyway.

The ankle is *twitching* i swear. If I look closely there's this tiny jumpy nerve. And I'm in the room now, with the air cond on, so it's cold, so I have my legs tucked under a pile of heavy blankets, and when i happened to move, it totally killed my leg. It's stiff, it's twinging, and it's fat. Ankles are not supposed to do that dammit!

it's really the 13 wei. sept 13. gah.

I keep thinking about how I have to be mentally and emotionally celibate now. J-target is no longer an eligible target. There's only so much humiliation I can take. emo emo emo emo

even my playlist is against me. it's playing Ai Otsuka's daisuki da yo. Che, it means what i think it means right?!?

Kar's Birthday 1

Okay la, so it wasn't as chun as previous birthday outings, but still bloody fun and FUN to see each other again and catch up after so many blow offs (sorryyy). There wasn't much agenda this time, besides a posh dinner which i didn't go for , but there was definitely more talking and goss! woot!

So while getting lost looking for FOS, (sorry la, my north and south court directions are always mixed up) I panic-ly bought the most pathetic birthday present to date. I WILL MAKE IT UP TO YOU, BUY MORE CHUN PRESENT OKAY! I finally found Lee, Anaz and Kar, and Lee introduced Patrick (who has decidedly spoilt Lee very much, as she now insists on having her hands held 24/7. BOTH of them. layan la layan..) before we aimlessly walked around. Then the birthday girl and Anaz decides to go on diet (eh too much) so there's only Lee, Patrick and me to decide where to go for lunch. Someone wanted to eat pasta, and for some reason I suggested Dome.

The seafood pasta was dissapointing- where the heck are all my squids?! All they gave were three prawns and three oysters. Not like they were very tasty in the first place la... eeshyooo WHEN I ORDER SEAFOOD ANYTHING I EXPECT MY SOTONG/CALAMARI/SQUID! in abundance! But the parmesan cream was tolerable, i'll give them that. We must have sat there for almost two hours talking and laughing and gossiping and talking and talking. oh right, and camwhoring.

Anaz and I discovered that Kar must have very very very precise timing. Even if the sun is still shining, but her watch says it's midnight, the sun is wrong. HEEEE

Kar's ear became a topic for a bit. Before we set off into peals of cackling.

That brought about memories of moral class, Miss Umma, and some goss about people who used to be in our moral class.

I do not stalk people. I swear. I just happen to be very curious that Patrick was in the same school as him okay...

I came up with that name okay! trademark!

You know they're up to something when Lee pouts and makes puppy faces at you just so she can have the couch seats. *layan la layan*

Then she got bored, and scouted for more cam whore buddies.

As Anaz said, "Hiao betul"

After ciaoing from Dome, we went off to Carrefour to check out sunnies and Lee wanted to run some Golden Errands for her mom. Or so i thought. I turned around half way to find that Kar and Anaz had mysteriously dissapeared. A check call to Kar turns out that they had went to buy chocolate fondue strawberries after they wouldn't let me buy my sugar cover-coated strawberries :D

Chocolate covered strawberries, yes, like Siti Nurhaliza punya favorite dessert, is actually quite a messy affair. Just ask Anaz. Or her jeans. sorry babe! The strawberries taste really nice and all, but the fact that you have to poke and pry and gouge little satay stick size holes into the poor strawberries is a bit deterring, but the price is quite worth it. RM4.50 for a box which has approximately 10? not bad laaaa. They should put the into separate little compartments though, all the strawberries were stuck together in chocolatey chunks.

I think right, we've become old. like. OLD. Gone are the days when we could walk around the whole mall. Now we can barely make a trip to Dome where we sit down 99 % of the time, a few hundred metres on the LG level eating strawberries, and two trips to the washroom before we RETIRE to the nearest eatery with seats(dunkin donuts omg). And there is a short collective silence as we sit down because we are silently sighing with relief that our legs and butts get a rest. ahhhhhh....

But of course, the trigger happy fingers can never rest. SMS marathons pay off.

late night or early morning

Depends on how you look at it right?

I mean, technically, alright, it's the early morning. It's saturday, yeah. But I've been awake a whole day now, I'm still biologically running on Friday night.

I'm just asking for it right?

Excuse my msn typing la, I have fast fat fingers, what to do?

But sometimes I feel very incomplete you know? like.. when I used to do jigsaw puzzles, especially the one with my horoscope, I had this horrible fear that something would go missing because they were scattered all over the place. I slaved over it, obsessed over little blue and black pieces, and it essentially took over a few weeks of my life. In the end, I finished it, glued it to cardboard, then propped it against a wall somewhere to admire for a while before I got bored of it.

Then now it's like the same thing happening all over again; there's the irrational fear that it's going to get lost. That once it slips away, it's going to be out of reach for ever and ever, and I'll spend the rest of time kicking myself for not having enough guts to finish it properly, to find every single piece, to complete the whole damn puzzle. Then I don't know what will happen.

Then sometimes it feels like it may be actually finished. Like, it's not perfect, the pieces don't totally look right, don't feel right, don't match right, but it fits perfectly. Like it was meant to be that way in the first place, and I just didn't know it, or didn't want to know it. And I don't want to alter what's already completed.

Yuen~Because I'm istimewa! says:
but maybe its actually half complete
Viewtiful Jay -52- : \m/ (> <) \m/ HOLIDAEH! says:

exams. booo

Monday's CTR was do-able. It had better be, since I skipped a havoc party just to study for it. It had spiral of silence, and I luckily studied the types of theories right before going into the hall, and it came out quite a bit for MCQs. Paradigms also got. heee :D Prediction : 40 %

ICC was a bloody cinch. I can't believe I panicked for it. I suppose it pays to have a newbie for a lecturer. For now.. The three types of communication in CC? easy peasy! the strategy framework? barely took me a minute. I finished in less than half an hour. See la what I score....
Prediction : 85%!

Today's IMMW was.. horror. Sheer.. unfinished horror. Why la suddenly pop up power of language, and shizz about it defining reality? okay, the latter was okay, I did like 3/4 of the page but then again it was supposed to be a short answer! gah. And my essay. Man oh man.. bugger the peatlands.
Prediction : 25%

MAHAI!

Resolution #829275821058

I will stop swearing. so much.

No, seriously! I will I will I will. Turun harga saham tau. But of course I won't go cold turkey. Start slowly. yes yes. Slow and steady is the key.

Swearing constitutes the F*** word (see, I'm censoring it! Must change blog url now.), and erm.. um..

Okay, i CAN still say Fug. Cause, you know.. it's not a real word anyway. Hokkien shouldn't really count, not that it matters because I know only typical hokkien swear anyway. Okay la!! so no more cibai, lan jiao, etc.

Shizz, cantonese, and stupid s are still acceptable in my book. This is good practice. Must stop being such a banana.

OKAYS! semangat. I will not swear AT ALL on Saturday! promise promise promise. I'm such a lousy friend. No better present. tsk!

MISSING

Please go to Grace's or Calvin's blog and see their missing person post.

I don't have the picture, blogger won't let me post it up. But Grace's uncle who has memory loss has been missing, and if you see him anywhere, he was last sighted at PJ, please please please be a good Malaysian/tourist in Malaysia and notify her/person in charge

five minute post

I am currently at the paradigms chapter for CTR.

Took a break. I visited xiaxue's blog. Pictures are of her, from her blog. If by any chance she happens to read this, please don't sue me ya.

Look!

Her curls are exactly what I want! I mean, not the length la, it's too long and too high maintainence for me, somewhere past shoulder blades will do fine for me.

But the curls! yes yes! I'd rather curl my hair than dye it, the urge to do it becomes stronger.. Having to wait sucks man. I do not have the patience of a saint, but tsk. no choice right.

Omg, I am so envious when I look at her hair.

I'm becoming obsessed with hair aren't I. This blog is becoming more bimbotic than ever. heh.

paradigms

a collection of beliefs shared by scientists, a set of agreements about how problems are to be understood. a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitute a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

liberal pluralists, positivism, cultural imperialism, empiricism, functionalism left to go. can die.

okay, Orson's No Tomorrow just ended. The Fray's Over My Head (how appropriate) is starting. time to study.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KARBEAR

Babe, i'm so sorry I wasn't at your surprise party. Will make it up to you after my exams. miss you love you hugs youuuu

Hair I Covet

I've been doing some research on digital perming.

Hopefully it'll turn out like this. tendril-ly, shiny, tousled looking.

Then, I've seen Joyce's hair when she got it permed. the ends were something like the above. Also quite pretty cause it's quite natural looking.

I think this is really purty too. I believe they call these romantic curls. not digital perming la, but I still like it.

The problem with perming is that it's supposed to damage the hair. but digital perming is supposed to avoid that, because they don't use as many chemicals, or what not. They use more about heat infusion and there was something about ceramic... er. yahhh..

Plus, after perming, there's the whole issue of maintenance. Some say the curls can go unkept and unruly, so there's a need for like.. special stuff to put in and whatnot. I don't mind having to rub it potion really, cause I do it some mornings with the anti frizz oil I have when i have bad hair days or when there's something to dress up for. But what if the perm job goes bad???!!! I don't want to end up with hay for hair.

And there's the whole question of where? Absolutely no back alley small Ah Chong's unisex salon. Some place with reputation. Preferably where I know somebody has gotten a nice perm job. I've read good things about Toni and Guys. I have no idea where their salon is in kl though. So that pretty much leaves A Cut Above in MV, and other posh looking salons in One U..ahhhhhh <3

So much effort, so much thinking.. all for what?

So i can have lovelygorgeouswhooshyshinycurlygorgeoussexyilovetotouch hair.

time to save money and save long hair.

There's so many things i like about you, I..
I just don't know where to begin,

I like the way you, look at me with those beautiful eyes,
I like the way you, act all surprised,
I like the way you, sing along,
I like the way you, always get it wrong,
I like the way you, clap your hands,
I like the way you, love to dance,
I like the way you, put your hands up in the air,
I like the way you, shake your hair,
I like the way you, like to touch,
I like the way you, stare so much,
but most of all....
Yeah..
most of all....

I like the way you move.....
I like the way you move.....

I like the way you, put your hands up in the air,
I like the way you, shake your hair,
I like the way you, like to touch,
I like the way you, stare so much,
but most of all....
Yeah..
most of all....

I like the way you move.....
I like the way you move.....

I like the way you, put your hands up in the air,
I like the way you, shake your hair,
I like the way you, like to touch,
I like the way you, stare so much,
but most of all....
Yeah..
most of all....

I like the way you move!

i tell you something okay.
a deep deep secret i've never told anybody else.

you know everytime at events like orientation and concerts, they have one super havoc performance that gets everybody wooting and riled up because the moves are hot, the performers may not be that hot, but the dance hides all that, and best of all, the music rocks?

it makes me really really want to perform on stage too

but then got no guts right. plus, nobody ever ajaks to join. lagi shy.

which is why the only time you will ever probably get to see me dance is when i get caught up in the hype, or in the privacy of my room. And there must be a really good song. that gets me all hot.

Cultural Extra-la. I

Last Saturday on the 26th, I attended the Cultural Extravaganza at Taylors Subang. kononnya la to support Chandni in her performance. I was dying for an excuse to get out of the house and meet up with people outside of the classroom environment. But damn lazy also. Got CTR to finish k..

I didn't want to go alone, and at first it looked like I would pretty much be abandoned by JayMan and ReaganBoy while they looked at chicks as no one else was going. PULL OUT THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK.

No la. I called Francine along. Thank goodness she was free. Yayyy ada cuci mata teman ;D

So while the parentals were in Kuala Selangor hunting fishy bargains, I was making arrangements with FranCanDo. As is usual with girls there was the whole question of what to wear. I was all for wearing a dress because all my jeans and pants were in the wash. But then there's the question of looking tooooooo formal. Ah bugger la, who's going to look anyway.

When I went to Fran's house, I saw her new dog, Keira. Evil nutty dog sniffed up my skirt and made my leg get all yucky wet. Her parents dropped us off at Starbucks, where we chilled for a bit while waiting for the rest. I had my yearly dose of ice blended coffee :d after a..em.. cheerful chat with the barrister/barrista/WAITER LA :D no la no flirting.HEHEHEEHEHE

After a call to Reagan and Jay, I ask Jay to fasterfasterhurryup and come teman us. Tak malu la, sick people all.. And for some reason, Reagan was very excitable. Sound so high. TALK SO LOUD AT ME FOR WHAT i'm not deaf la donk.

The event was in the Multipurpose Hall. You know, Halls should be on the ground floors. Where you don't need to climb any stairs at all. Because, you know.. it's so high up.. so many people, more mass, more pressure on the ground.. not good.. and architects should be considerate of people who have altophobia. >:(

Overall the performances were quite good. Singing wasn't too bad, Ashleigh and two girls from the march intake I think performed Kau Ilhamku and FranCanDo and I were practically swooning in our seats. Musicians. *sigh*

Other notable performances were a chinese traditional instrument. I forget what it's called la. It's like the Chinese version of the harp? The one that you see all the concubines in the palaces always play in the tv series.. eeshk.

sendiri poke ya...

Jay made the most embarassing moment of all night. He shouted out 'Wo Ai Ni' to the performer *just* when everybody went silent. Fran and I had the same flashback to Krys' band solo a few years ago. HEEE!!!

What we do when waiting

We had the most sucky seats in the whole hall. We were surrounded by hooligans i tell you. Hooligans who came to support their homies with all their bling bling. BISING HINGGA MAU TAMPAR. wwoiiisho.

FINALLY we saw what we came for. Chand's performance was quite havoc la. There was hot stuff, pork chops, and umbrellas. -_-' But cool! Blogger is being is owning my ass and wont let me post the rest of the photos, but hehehee you can see them on my laptop. I WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FRONT TO TAKE OKAY! Someone better ask to see them...

We didn't stay for the whole concert. After the Peacock dance by Sunway, we ciao-ed to Asia Cafe for some grub. There's this dessert stall that sells this doughy looking thing called durian pancake. IT IS TO DIE FOR. In the 10 minutes it took for Jay and Reagan to go and order their food, I scarfed two of them down. It's like the little dumpling skin wrapped around durian puree and whipped cream. It's like a little puff of Malaysian goodness. <3

Fruit Juice Roxx - gets me on a camwhore high

blogger making me unhappy. There are many photos waiting for their moment of glory. There will be a price to pay... >:(

but really la, I mean, the January intakes and the Marchies are preeetty segregated. Before this, there was hardly any chance to mix with them, other than a couple of people in my intake who already knew them beforehand like Tun, or extra extroverted people like Beh. But now that we have 3 classes together, mix a bit more yay ;D

so far i know a few by face only. I talked to Roger today, who's from Pahang. He's a fellow Chinese who doesnt look Chinese! bugger, must come up with a name to call that. Roger has the most fascinating pair of Adis I've seen so far besides mine. His is pretty much like the classic you see, except that his stripes on the shoe are something like a metallic red. It's shiiiinnyyyy and hypnotising! like a lava lamp. I feel like poking it everytime I see it. hurrrr

Other than that, I don't really know the others. shy laa..

Sorry la! There's nothing happening happening in my life.. This is the most interesting thing I can come up with.

Got car, got license, no permission to take Jun out for joyrides.siao sad k. I will post pictures of Jun one day.
